From Denton Development Code 35.20.2.A.4-5:
Secondary arterial. A street whose main purpose is to serve as a major route through and between different areas of the City. … Secondary arterials have two (2) through lanes plus a bicycle lane in each direction separated by a median. No parking is permitted. Driveway access to single-family and two-family dwelling units is not permitted. …
6.
Primary arterial. A street, including Interstate Highway Service Roads, whose main purpose is to serve as a major route into, out of or across the City. … Primary arterials have at least three (3) lanes plus a bicycle lane in each direction separated by a median. … No parking is permitted. …

Arterials are supposed to have bike lanes, there is no need to designate Oak and Hickory something else in order to put bike lanes on them.

I know that the priority is the UNT commuters, but I sure wish we could do something about State School Road. I commute from Robinson to the town center and that is the most dangerous part of my commute without a doubt. It makes me wonder how many people in that very heavily populated residential area are scared off of commuting by bike because of it.
