I read a comment (since removed) that the crossing was obstructed by heavy vegetation so that the cyclist would not be able to see the train until it was almost in the crossing and that there were no gates at the point where the bike path crossed the tracks, but I can’t find a Street View of the path to verify that one way or the other.
